Background
In today's fast-paced world, many young individuals strive for excellence, aiming to meet high standards and achieve success. However, this pursuit of perfection can sometimes lead to a phenomenon known as performance pressure. This pressure to excel in various aspects of life can significantly impact the mental well-being of youth, often resulting in stress, anxiety, burnout and depression. Balancing the desire for excellence with preserving one's mental health is a delicate challenge that many young people face today.
Aim
To find the significant influence of performance pressure on mental health of young adults
Objectives
Method
A survey method was used in this study. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was adopted in this study. A sample of 480 university students who aged between 18 to 25 were participated in this study. The data were collected through purposive sampling method with the help of standardized psychological measures such as, Academic stress scale by Kohn and Frazer (1986), Kessler Psychological distress Scale (K10) by Kessler et al (2002), Contigencies of self-worth scale (CSWS) by Crocker, Luhtanen, Cooper, and Bouvrette (2003) and Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS) by Frost, Marten, Lahart, and Rosenblate (1990). The analyses were done by using regression, one-way ANOVA, r and t test.
Results and Conclusion
The findings will provide insights into performance pressure related mental health cost of youth excellence by identifying key psychological weaknesses. The conclusions will inform strategies for modifying negative effects and promoting mental resilience among young adults.
